Two-Time GRAMMY® Nominee Divinity Roxx Puts the “Star” in STARCHILD

Starchild Vol. I may be made for kids and families, but Divinity Roxx isn’t talking down to anyone. Instead, she builds an entire musical universe around Starchild, a seemingly ordinary girl who gradually discovers that she comes from somewhere far beyond Earth—and that the power she’s searching for has been inside her all along. Hip-hop, funk, soul and storytelling keep Starchild Vol. I in constant motion. “Starchild Intro” launches the adventure before “Wake Up – Rock N Roll Time” kicks the energy into gear. From there, “Yeah Yeah Yeah” and “Rock It Out” mark the moment Starchild gets a bass guitar in her hands and begins discovering what she can do with it. By the time “Starlight” arrives, the story is already reaching beyond Earth and shooting into space, as dreams and mysterious clues start pointing Starchild toward a much bigger truth about who she really is. With Starchild Vol. I, its message never has to interrupt the fun: kids get an intergalactic adventure, while the music quietly reminds them that being exactly who they are might be their greatest superpower.
Helping bring Starchild's universe to life is an all-star group of collaborators including legendary funk pioneer Bootsy Collins, beloved family music icon Laurie Berkner, GRAMMY Award-winning producer Jerry Wonda (Fugees, Shakira), longtime collaborator Wayne Gerard, Canadian songwriter Aiza, and Divinity's own mother, nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends, and the Atlanta-based Genesis Academy Cheer Squad. Together they create a rich musical landscape that reflects the album's celebration of imagination, connection, and belonging. The visual world of Starchild is every bit as imaginative as its music. The album artwork was illustrated by award-winning children's book artist R. Gregory Christie, a two-time New York Times Best Illustrated Book honoree, and designed by acclaimed photographer and Prince's longtime art director Steven Parke, completing the album's bold visual identity.
Two-time GRAMMY®-nominated recording artist, composer, educator, author and bassist Divinity Roxx has built a career that stretches from some of the world’s biggest stages to music created specifically for young listeners. She toured internationally as Beyoncé’s bassist and musical director and has performed with bass virtuoso Victor Wooten, bringing that musicianship into her work with Divi Roxx Kids. Her family albums Ready Set Go! and World Wide Playdate each earned GRAMMY® nominations, and her work for children also includes the theme song for PBS KIDS’ Lyla in the Loop and Scholastic picture books inspired by her original songs. With Starchild Vol. I, Roxx takes another imaginative leap, combining the funk and hip-hop at the heart of her musical life with storytelling designed to help kids discover a little star power of their own.
