On A Matter of Time, GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Laufey opens a new chapter in her already sparkling, bow-adorned career. The album reveals an artist unafraid to wander into deeper, more vulnerable spaces, offering songs that balance her classical and jazz foundations with strikingly modern emotion. Collaborating with longtime partner Spencer Stewart and acclaimed producer Aaron Dessner, Laufey captures the raw and restless heart of love—its beauty, its flaws, and its unpredictability—through lush orchestrations, fiery lyricism, and her unmistakable voice. From the delicate optimism of “Silver Lining” to the biting edge of “Tough Luck,” the record showcases a Laufey who is both daring and playful, willing to explore every shade of human connection. The dreamy standout "Lover Girl" floats between wistful jazz phrasing and a modern pop-bossa vibe, embodying the album’s balance of nostalgia and fresh perspective.
This sense of exploration has always been at the core of her artistry. While earlier projects such as Everything I Know About Love and the GRAMMY®-winning Bewitched charted her coming-of-age and first encounters with love, A Matter of Time feels like a bit of an evolution. Here, Laufey trades fantasy for fearless honesty, presenting her most personal collection yet. It’s an album that doesn’t hide behind a polished façade but instead peers directly into the mirror, finding magic in imperfection and courage in vulnerability.
Born in Reykjavík and raised between Iceland and Washington, D.C., Laufey (pronounced lay-vay) has become one of the most compelling voices of her generation. A classically trained pianist and cellist, she honed her craft at Berklee College of Music before emerging as a global force with her debut EP Typical of Me. Since then, she has achieved 5 billion streams worldwide, headlined sold-out shows at iconic venues including the Hollywood Bowl and Royal Albert Hall, recently took to the road for a major arena tour selling out both Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, and Madison Square Garden in NYC. Laufey collaborated with artists from Norah Jones to Beabadoobee to Barbra Streisand, and earned recognition as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and one of TIME’s 2025 Women of the Year. With her music serving as a bridge between the timeless sounds of jazz and classical and the ears of a new generation, Laufey continues to redefine what it means to be a modern-day musical storyteller.
