Four-Time GRAMMY® Nominee Summer Walker Is FINALLY OVER IT

“...she’s the most intriguing and ambitious soul singer of her generation…” —The New York Times
Four-time GRAMMY® nominee, Summer Walker, closes the book on her Over It trilogy with Finally Over It, and she sounds ready to leave some things behind. Released via LVRN/Interscope Records, the album is divided into two sides—For Better and For Worse—giving Walker room to look at love from opposite ends of the relationship spectrum. “Go Girl,” featuring Latto and Doja Cat, brings three distinct personalities together for one of the album’s biggest and most confident moments, while “Robbed You,” featuring Mariah the Scientist, heads into more vulnerable territory. “No” is exactly as decisive as its title suggests, and “1-800 Heartbreak,” featuring Anderson .Paak, puts another spin on romantic disappointment. By the time Walker reaches the title track, “Finally Over It,” there’s a sense that the phrase means more than being finished with a relationship—it’s about being finished with the emotional baggage that came with it.
The album gets even more interesting when Walker allows those contradictions to sit side by side. “FMT” anchors the For Worse half and is accompanied by a striking video centered on release, ancestry and letting go, giving the song a larger visual and emotional context. “Allegedly,” featuring Teddy Swims, pairs two immediately recognizable voices, while tracks like “Situationship” and two-time GRAMMY®-nominated, “Heart of a Woman,” return to the complicated space between what we want from love and what we’re willing to accept from it. Across the project, Walker can be wounded one moment, funny or defiant the next, and completely done with the conversation shortly after that. That emotional unpredictability has always been part of what makes her songwriting connect. Finally Over It doesn’t offer a neat answer to modern relationships; instead, it lets Walker sort through the mess, decide what stays and what goes, and bring one of contemporary R&B’s most recognizable album cycles to a fitting close.
Atlanta singer-songwriter Summer Walker emerged with her 2018 mixtape Last Day of Summer before establishing herself as a distinctive voice in contemporary R&B with her debut album, Over It. Songs including “Girls Need Love,” “Playing Games,” and “Come Thru” helped introduce a writing style built around conversational honesty, vulnerability and the sometimes uncomfortable realities of relationships. She followed with Still Over It and the GRAMMY®-nominated CLEAR 2: SOFT LIFE, while “Heart of a Woman,” the first single from Finally Over It, earned two GRAMMY® nominations last year for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song. With Finally Over It, Walker completes the trilogy she began with Over It, bringing years of heartbreak, self-examination and growth full circle while sounding increasingly comfortable choosing herself.

REVIEWS
“If “Finally Over It,” the third studio album from the Atlanta singer and songwriter Summer Walker, were the best R&B release of this year — which it almost certainly is — that would be more than enough. It has been a particularly dry stretch for the genre, but even when it’s fertile, Walker is at the top of the class: a sensuous and detailed singer with an appreciation of history that doesn’t hold her back from making decidedly modern music.”
