Aoife O'Donovan's ALL MY FRIENDS: A Tribute to the Power of the Vote and the Legacy of Women's Suffrage

“We are so lucky to live in a democracy...and we have to participate in it.

Just like stopping at a red light or being a good neighbor,

voting is our responsibility as citizens.”

- Aoife O'Donovan

GRAMMY winner Aoife O'Donovan's newest release, All My Friends, is a sweeping, orchestral tribute to the power of the vote and the legacy of women’s suffrage. Inspired by the life and work of suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt, O’Donovan uses her signature contemplative songwriting to weave together historical narrative and personal reflection. Her nine tracks, featuring contributions from the chamber orchestra, The Knights, the brass quartet The Westerlies, and the San Francisco Girls’ Chorus, capture the emotional and political landscape surrounding the fight for the 19th amendment, blending timeless oratory with modern musical textures.

The album’s rich soundscape is shaped by O’Donovan’s collaboration with her husband, conductor Eric Jacobsen, and arranger Tanner Porter, creating a cohesive and dynamic musical journey. Tracks like The Right Time and War Measure incorporate historical elements while reflecting on contemporary issues of women's rights and activism. With influences drawn from suffragist speeches, O’Donovan gives a fresh, musical voice to the past while linking it to the present-day struggle for equality.

Anchored in both history and personal reflection, All My Friends brings together the political and the intimate, capturing a profound moment of social change through a deeply personal lens. As the album traces the suffragists' fight and their resonance in today’s world, it becomes a call to action, urging listeners to reclaim their voice and participate in shaping the future.
