“I've been writing forever, but this album is my real birth as a songwriter."
—Cyrille Aimée
Two-time GRAMMY® nominee Cyrille Aimée’s latest album, à Fleur de Peau, is her most personal and vulnerable work yet, blending elements of her French and Dominican heritage with influences from New Orleans, New York City, and her current home in Costa Rica. During her 2024 world tour, Aimée shared this emotionally rich collection of songs, captivating audiences with stories that feel like pages from her personal diary. Tracks like “Back To You,” about long-distance love, and “Beautiful Way,” celebrating community, reveal her heartfelt songwriting.
The album’s title, à Fleur de Peau, literally means "on the surface of the skin," but in French, it conveys being deeply in tune with emotions, community, and the world. “It means when you're very in touch with everything around you…you’re moved by the smallest things,” Aimée explained. This openness defines both her music and her performances, where her blend of jazz sophistication, pop accessibility, and Caribbean rhythms creates an intimate connection with listeners.
Born in Samois-sur-Seine, France, near the legendary Django Reinhardt Festival, Aimée’s musical journey began early, fueled by the Afro-Caribbean sounds of her Dominican mother and the jazz culture of her hometown. After moving to New York City, she built a celebrated career performing with legends like Roy Hargrove and starring in a Stephen Sondheim tribute. Her Sondheim-inspired album Move On earned GRAMMY® recognition, and her creative partnership with producer Jake Sherman has now resulted in à Fleur de Peau, a career-defining work that showcases her depth, artistry, and emotional resonance like never before.
